I’m currently listening to my brother’s latest podcast (he has so many good ones), and one thing really stood out: when asked about how he balances his many businesses and interests, he immediately acknowledged that his success isn’t his alone. He credited his team.
As many of you know, One Wealth Advisors exists because of our team. Our client experience thrives because our team believes in something greater than individual talent. So, how do we do it? Simple: we build from within.
Building from within has allowed us to evolve our culture over time. I was David’s first hire, and since then, we’ve focused on hiring those who are willing to start at the ground level and grow with us. This requires a special kind of personality, one that understands the importance of long-term fulfillment over short-term success.
How do we live this? Here are some examples:
- Managing your personal finances: This allows you to grow alongside the team, both personally and professionally.
- Ego check: Joining a team like this only works if you leave your ego at the door. Early in your career, this can be tough, especially when your success depends on the collective.
- Trust: The hardest part is trusting that the collective has your best interests at heart. We provide mentorship, a safe space to challenge the status quo (this is still a work in progress but I believe we try), and opportunities for career development.
- Access: We allow new team members to shape the culture. As an example, I remember one of our recent hires (she’s been with us for two years now) was trying to figure out how she could contribute to our culture. She asked why we weren’t composting in the office. My response? “Let’s start composting.” Imagine trying to implement that in a company with 100,000 employees!
Starting from the bottom carries risks, and there’s no guarantee of success. But if you ask yourself the right questions when considering a job change or entering the workforce, you’ll have a better chance of finding true happiness and fulfillment.
