I’ve been invited to speak on a podcast called Financial Perspectives. The topic will be Financial Therapy – Implementing It Into Your Practice. As many of you may know, transitioning to a podcast personality is NOT playing into my strengths. My demeanor lends itself to talking one-on-one or in small groups, and clearly not to a large audience or an unlimited number of people of whom I know nothing about. I find it ironic, though, that one topic of financial therapy I’ll likely be discussing is challenging clients to take themselves out of their comfort zones. All too often we do what makes us feel comfortable and in the context of finances, this could mean spending too much or spending too little. Spending too much may make you feel transactionally comfortable, but you may be spending money you don’t yet have. In contrast, and what we often find, is that clients may actually be able to spend more money on experiences that bring them happiness and peace of mind, yet they hesitate to do so because it is uncomfortable.
Who knows how my podcast will go, and the butterflies are something I have not felt in quite some time, but I need to practice what I am preaching and this is what excites me.
